It was 1889 when a historic event took place in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.
That's when a little-known dairy farmer named Milo Jones had a taste for
sausage. Not just any sausage. But the sausage his mother used to make
from a cherished family recipe. The Jones family had been in Fort Atkinson
since the 1830's when they bought the farm as part of a landgrant signed by
President John Tyler. And even though Milo was struck with rheumatoid
arthritis and could no longer operate the farm, he did find a way to make
that sausage. In fact, he made enough sausage to give to his neighbors.
And they liked it so much he made some more.
Soon, word of Milo's great tasting sausage spread. And his dedication to
quality and hard work paid off as his new business began to grow. Before
long, he added bacon and ham to his product line and orders came in from
all over the country.
Today, six generations later, the Jones family still operates the original
farm in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. And Jones Dairy Farm remains a family-run
and family-owned operation. Which is why we've been able to maintain those
same high-quality standards set down by Milo over 100 years ago.
These high standards have also allowed us to accomplish a number of "firsts"
in the meat-packing industry. Back in 1903, we were an early leader in
national advertising when the famous Jones "Little Pig Sausage" ad appeared
in leading magazines such as Saturday Evening Post, Literary Digest and
Good Housekeeping.
And because we're dedicated to delivering farm-fresh quality, Jones Dairy
Farm was the first meat packing company to quick-freeze sausage. This locks
in freshness and facilitates shipping throughout the U.S. and abroad
without the need for chemicals or preservatives.
We were also one of the first sausage companies to introduce a fully-cooked
line of breakfast sausage. And we were one of the first to offer "light"
breakfast sausage products.
As part of our commitment to safety, we became one of the first meat packing
companies to operate a modern bacteriological chemical laboratory to support
comprehensive quality and weight. This lab is accredited by the A2LA.
