We love this twist on a southern-classic. Chicken fried breakfast sausage tops a fluffy waffle in this unbeatable combination of savory and sweet.


 Enjoy these main ingredient substitutions:

ingredients

For the ​Waffles:

2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 3/4 cups milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil​
2 tablespoons honey​
1 teaspoon vanilla extract​

For the ​Sausages:​

2 (5 oz) packages Jones Dairy Farm All Natural Golden Brown Chicken Sausage Patties​
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon cracked pepper
2 eggs
Oil for frying

For ​Serving:

Butter
Maple syrup
DIRECTIONS

For the ​Waffles:

Preheat oven to 200˚F.

Mix flour, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, oil, honey and vanilla. Stir liquid ingredients into dry ingredients and mix for about 1 minute. Some clumps in batter are ok, it shouldn’t be perfectly smooth.

Make waffles in waffle maker according to instructions. Put cooked waffles in oven to stay warm.

For the Chicken:

Mix flour, salt, paprika and black pepper in medium bowl. Whisk eggs in separate bowl. One at a time, dip each sausage patty into flour to coat. Shake off excess flour and dip into egg. Allow excess egg to drip off and repeat with flour and egg. Add one final coating of flour.

Add about 1 1/2-inches oil to skillet and heat to 350˚. Fry sausage patties 4 at a time for about 5 minutes, until golden brown.

To serve split waffles between 4 plates. Top each with butter. Top waffles with 2 fried sausage patties per plate. Serve with maple syrup.
