Process & Innovation Intern

Jones Dairy Farm, a family owned and operated business for over 135 years, is seeking a Process & Innovation Intern. This is an excellent opportunity for a college student looking for an internship in the Food Manufacturing Industry who can demonstrate organization, a high level of accuracy, and attention to detail.

Position Description:

Responsible for assisting the Process & Innovation team and other cross functional teams at Jones Dairy Farm (ex. Food Safety Quality Assurance, Operations, Continuous Improvement, Jones Market). The intern will be assigned projects to support product development, culinary innovation, process improvement, and data management to be completed through the term of the internship. Upon completion of projects, the Process & Innovation Intern will compile and present a report to leadership team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to work 8 hours a day Monday through Friday (depending on project work, some weekend work may be needed).
  • Independently work on and complete projects assigned to the position and complete final report at end of summer summarizing internship experiences.
  • Organize data, photos, equipment, tools, and final project report in complete and concise manner for historical project tracking.
  • Assist in the production (weighing ingredients, setting up of equipment, operation equipment, cleanup of equipment, data collection, experiential shadowing) for projects supporting the Process & Innovation (PI) team.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams (FSQA, Operations, Procurement) and Jones Dairy Farm customers (Jones Market, events) and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Must be willing to work in production environment (refrigerated rooms, freezers) or kitchen on an as-needed basis.
  • Adherence to food safety and worker safety practices as outlined by Jones Dairy Farm.
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative relationship with other employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Food Science, Meat Science, Animal Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Culinary Science. Other fields considered with interest or intention of pursuing career in food industry.

Experience or Training: Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills. Good problem-solving, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Willingness to take initiative with multiple tasks and projects.

Technology/Equipment: Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, TEAMS).

Working Environment:

Work duties can be performed in manufacturing, kitchen, laboratory, or office environment. There will be exposure to production areas requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), uniform or protective clothing, and safety equipment.
