CERTIFIED Gluten-Free Sausage & Meat

All Jones Dairy Farm meats are certified gluten free, except for our Scrapple, which is made at a separate manufacturing plant.

What is Gluten?

Gluten is a family of proteins found in certain grains, including wheat, rye and barley. Contrary to popular belief, rice is naturally gluten-free. Gluten helps foods maintain their shape, acting as a glue that holds food together. Gluten can be found in many types of foods, even ones that would not be expected, according to the Celiac Disease Foundation.

Which types of meat are gluten free?

Naturally, meat is gluten free.

Fresh or frozen cuts of meat, like pork and poultry (chicken and turkey), are all naturally gluten-free. However, that can quickly change based on how meat is further processed and handled. With meat products, you will most likely find gluten in items such as meatballs, chicken strips, and breakfast sandwiches.

Meat that is free from gluten is an essential attribute for people that follow a gluten-free diet due to celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, or personal dietary choices.

How do you know if the meat you’re buying is gluten free?

It’s important to look for a gluten-free label, call-out, or logo and check for allergens and obvious ingredients like wheat and other grains.  According to the FDA, manufacturers may voluntarily claim products as “gluten free” as long as the requirements are met, including less than 20ppm (parts per million). 20ppm is sometimes enough to trigger a gluten allergy or auto-immune response.

At Jones Dairy Farm, we’ve made it easy for you to know and trust that our products are gluten free because we take the extra step to become certified.

Because we’re certified gluten free, Jones Dairy Farm goes through rigorous testing to ensure the quality and safety of our products. We maintain a standard of fewer than 5ppm of gluten, as measured by the Gluten Free Food Program organization. You will find a Certified Gluten Free logo on all of our gluten free products including all of our all natural sausage offerings, naturally smoked hams and Canadian bacon, dry aged bacon, and braunschweiger liver sausage.

All Jones Dairy Farm meats, except for our Scrapple which is made at a separate manufacturing plant, are certified gluten free. They have been gluten free for more than 130 years, and we take pride in that!

Canadian bacon breakfast plate

Gluten-Free Naturally Smoked Canadian Bacon

Canadian bacon is different than bacon and ham. Canadian bacon is made from pork loin, which makes it much leaner than traditional bacon, which is made only from pork belly. This gives Canadian bacon a different texture and is closer to a slice of ham than the cured bacon most people are familiar with. While there are multiple kinds of ham, Canadian bacon is one-of-a-kind and most often used as a pizza topper, in a breakfast sandwich, or simply eaten straight from the package as a nice snack or protein for lunch.

Bacon breakfast plate

Gluten-Free bacon

Our Jones Dairy Farm Dry Aged Bacon and No Sugar Uncured Bacon are packed with flavor you won’t find elsewhere. Similar to a dry aged steak, we dry age our bacon for up to three weeks to allow moisture to evaporate, resulting in a true, bold, smoky, and authentic bacon flavor. We take our time because we believe it’s worth it. Jones bacon uses premium, center-cut pork bellies sources from the Midwest. A century old brine recipe gives it a rich, incomparable flavor and hours in our own smokehouses using natural cherrywood or hickory wood chips give it the right smoke amount, without any liquid or artificial smoke flavorings. Our no sugar, uncured bacon is ideal for those looking for an all-natural, uncured offering without the sugar.

Our turkey bacon is uncured and made with all-natural turkey. We don’t use any filler or mechanically separated turkey, ever.
