Sausage French Toast Grilled Cheese
The Sweet-Savory Mashup You Didn’t Know You Needed for Brunch
This Sausage French Toast Grilled Cheese is the kind of recipe that needs no justification. Vanilla-scented brioche is dipped in a cinnamon egg custard, pan-fried, then topped with shredded white cheddar and Jones Dairy Farm Golden Brown All Natural Maple Pork Sausage Links before going into a hot oven. A fried egg gets stacked on top and the whole thing gets a drizzle of maple syrup. It’s 30 minutes and worth every one of them.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 8 eggs, divided
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon sugar
- 8 slices brioche bread slices
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 (7 oz.) box Jones Dairy Farm All Natural Golden Brown Maple Pork Breakfast Sausage Links
- 1 1/2 cups shredded white cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
Directions
Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment and set aside.
Heat sausage links in a medium skillet over medium heat until cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on a paper towel. Once cool, slice down the middle lengthwise.
Meanwhile, make the French toast. Whisk milk, 4 eggs, cinnamon sugar and vanilla extract in a shallow bowl. Melt butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Dip brioche in egg mixture. Fry slices until golden brown, 2-3 minutes per side.
Arrange slices of French toast on baking sheet and top with shredded cheese. Top four slices of the French toast with the halved sausage. Bake for 10 minutes, until cheese is melty.
While the French toast is in the oven, fry remaining eggs according to your liking.
Once the French toast is crisped and the cheese melted, remove from the oven, and add the four eggs to the remaining slices of toast. Top with the opposite side that has sausage, and drizzle with a touch of maple syrup. Serve while hot and enjoy!
