The Classic Sausage Stuffing Families Have Made for Decades
Classic Sausage Stuffing starts with Jones Dairy Farm All Natural Pork Sausage Roll crumbled and browned with chopped onion and celery, then simmered with chicken or turkey broth before folding in stuffing mix or dried sourdough bread cubes until everything is evenly moistened. Baked covered at 350°F until heated through, this classic sausage stuffing recipe serves eight and has been on Jones boxes long enough to become a multi-generational family tradition. Also works as a turkey stuffing — stuff the bird loosely right before roasting.
Ingredients
- 1 16 oz. Jones Dairy Farm All Natural Pork Sausage Roll
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, diced or chopped
- 1 12 oz. package stuffing mix/bread cubes (OPTION: For fresh sourdough bread, cut one loaf into cubes (about 6 cups) and dry before using)
Directions
Crumble sausage into a stock pot or Dutch oven. Add onion and celery; cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until sausage is no longer pink, about 6 to 8 minutes. (Do not drain or pour off drippings).
Add broth; bring to a boil.
Turn off heat; add stuffing mix, stirring until bread cubes are evenly moistened. Transfer to a greased casserole dish.
If using fresh sourdough, place bread cubes in a 200° F oven for 3-4 hours to speed up drying process. After bread is dried, season with a blend of herbs such as rosemary, sage, and thyme. We recommend 1 ½ tablespoons of each fresh herb, or 2 teaspoons of each if using dried herbs.
Bake covered in a preheated 350˚F oven 30 minutes or until heated through. (For drier texture, uncover casserole during last 10 minutes of baking). Some of the stuffing may be used to stuff turkey. Stuff bird loosely right before baking.

This is the exact stuffing recipe my mom made growing up, except she added roasted chestnuts. Absolutely delicious. The Jones Sausage is what really makes it, adds great flavor. I add walnuts instead of roasted chestnuts because it’s easier. Everyone loves this stuffing recipe.
Great flavor
This is the recipe that my mom made as we were growing up. I now use the same recipe and in-laws always request my stuffing. So easy to make and has a great flavor.
There is nothing like Jones sausage!
My grandparents lived in Fort Atkinson for 52 years. When we visited we ALWAYS had Jones sausage for breakfast. Thanksgiving dressing always was made with Jones sausage. Now I continue the same recipe with Jones but I have to order online because I can’t always find it around me in the Chicago suburbs. There is nothing like Jones sausage!

This is the stuffing my mother always made for our Thanksgiving turkey. Before she passed away, I asked her for the recipe and she gave it to me. The following Thanksgiving, I bought the Jones sausage and saw the recipe on the label. She scammed me!!! I bet she was laughing up in heaven when she saw me. LOL
