Braunschweiger Grilled Cheese
The Grilled Cheese You Didn’t Know You Were Missing
This Braunschweiger Grilled Cheese takes the classic sandwich to a whole new level. Jones Dairy Farm Sliced Braunschweiger Liverwurst adds rich, savory depth alongside melted Swiss cheese and slow-cooked balsamic caramelized onions, all pressed between buttery toasted bread. Simple ingredients, seriously satisfying results.
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
- 4 ounces shredded or sliced Swiss cheese
- 6 slices Jones Dairy Farm Sliced Braunschweiger
Directions
Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a large pot. Add onions; reduce heat to low and cover. Slowly cook onions, stirring frequently, until caramelized, about 30 minutes.
Remove cover and stir in balsamic vinegar. Cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Preheat large skillet over medium heat. Spread ½ tablespoon butter on each slice of bread.
Place 1 slice bread, butter-side down, in the skillet.
Top with 3 slices Braunschweiger Liverwurst, 2 tablespoons onions and 2 ounces cheese. Place another slice of bread on top (butter-side up).
Cook until the bottom slice is lightly browned, then flip. Continue cooking until the cheese is melted. Repeat to make the other sandwich.
