A grownup grilled cheese that blends the classic flavors of a Caprese Salad with savory ham and crusty bread that adults will enjoy as much as the kids. 

This recipe is made with Jones Ham Slices.

6.4oz Ham Slices (635x390)
ingredients
For Compound Butter:
1/2 cup softened butter
2-3 tablespoons fresh Basil (or other herbs), chopped
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon sea salt

For Remainder of Sandwich:
1 (8 oz) package Jones Dairy Farm Ham Slices
1 large garden-ripe tomato – 4 thick slices
4 large basil leaves
4 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
4 slices of a loaf of crusty bread (Rustic Italian or French works great)
Balsamic glaze
 
DIRECTIONS
Mix softened butter, herbs,  garlic and salt in a small bowl.  Set aside.  

Assemble 2 sandwiches by layering 1 slice of bread, 4 slices of ham (shingled), 2 thick slices of tomato, 2 slices of mozzarella, and additional slice of bread for each sandwich.  Spread 1 tablespoon compound butter on each of the top slices of bread.  

Heat skillet over medium-low heat.  Melt 2 tablespoons of compound butter in skillet.  Place sandwiches into warmed skillet and cover.  Cook for 3-4 minutes, until bottom bread is golden brown, then carefully flip over, and cover.  Continue to cook an additional 3-4 minutes to brown the bottom bread.  

Turn off heat and remove from skillet.  Lift top slices of bread and place 2 large basil leaves onto sandwich, and drizzle with balsamic glaze.  Replace top slices of bread and cut in half if desired before serving.
